Today I’m sharing some great jeans styles for mums. I’m now approaching 40, and most days comfort and practicality are more important than keeping up with fashion. As a result, I’m usually found wearing jeans, leggings or leggings. With that in mind, I thought I’d share some of my favourite jeans styles for mums. So keep reading for some inspiration.

Jeans Styles for Mums

If you read my blog regularly, you’ll know I’m not usually a fashion blogger. That doesn’t mean I’m not a fan though. Admittedly, it’s been many years since fashion was a main focus on my blog – Do you remember my Trendy Tot Thursday linky? That allowed parent bloggers to share their little one(s) outfits and get inspiration from fellow parents. I miss it!

When I went shopping for new jeans recently, I realised how different styles are now, compared to 2 years ago, so I thought I’d create a little reference guide to help you find a flattering fit. So keep reading for some great jeans styles for mums.

High Rise Jeans

I only ever wear high rise or high waist jeans these days. Gone are the days when I tried to squeeze my muffin-top into a mid-rise pair. High-Rise are amazing at holding everything in, and helping to emphasise your waist. They are by far the most flattering of jeans styles for mums, in my opinion.

I also find they dig in far less than other jeans rise options, and I don’t need a belt – thanks to my curvy hips! (I’m a UK Size 18, but at 5 foot 9, I’m lucky enough to still have a waistline – despite my curvy tummy, hips and calves.

Straight Leg Jeans

Straight leg jeans are perfect for an everyday, casual look. They are perfect for going to the park or supermarket. Land’s End have a great range of straight leg jeans for women, and are well worth a look.

Straight leg jeans are definitely the most comfortable of jeans, in my opinion. They tend to be really forgiving and hide a multitude of sins. I love to roll them up at the ankle, and pair them with converse on a sunny day, or ankle boots when its cooler.

Skinny Jeans and Jeggings

Personally, I prefer skinny Jeggings over skinny jeans. I find they have a bit more stretch, and fit better if you have curvier calves, like me. I wear skinny jeggings most days, and particularly love pairing them with knee high boots during colder months, and Vans or Converse with trainer socks, when it’s warmer.

Personally, I love how skinny jeans can be dressed up with heels, or worn casually with trainers. A smart black pair are perfect to pack for a night away, or to wear if you’re going straight out after work. You can just swap your top and shoes, then do your hair and make-up. Talk about travelling light!

Boot Cut Jeans

Boot Cut Jeans got me through my late teens and twenties. I’m pretty tall, and find that a decent pair of high-waisted boot cut jeans can make me look much taller and thinner than I actually am. They elongate your legs like no other jeans style, and you can even hide high heels beneath them if you want to appear taller than you really are.

My best friend is 5’1, and wore 4 inch heels under her bootcut jeans every day through college. None of her classmates realised she was so petite until she twisted her ankle and was forced into trainers for the final week of her 2nd year.

Wide Leg Jeans

Wide Leg jeans got me through my Emo Teen phase. I absolutely loved to wear them with trainers and a skinny tee, back in the day. The best thing about them now is they tend to have plenty of pockets – perfect for stashing all of those essential supplies you need as a mum.

Just make sure you empty all of the pockets before you wash them – the last thing you need is to have to do a DIY washing machine repairFinally, let me know in the comments if there are any other style of jeans you feel are great for mums.
