I recently attended a wedding on a chilly November day, and it got me thinking about Winter wedding outfit ideas. When people think of weddings, they usually imagine a warm and dry day in Spring or Summer. That’s not always practical though, and some happy couples opt for Winter weddings. So with this in mind, today I’m sharing some Winter wedding outfit ideas. Keep reading for my thoughts.
3 Great Winter Wedding Outfit Ideas
I love a good wedding! I get super excited whether it’s a big, fancy affair, or a small, intimate gathering. There’s something about being a part of the happy couple’s special day which fills my heart with joy. I love Winter Weddings especially, but choosing an outfit for a Winter wedding isn’t as easy!
If the event will involve spending time outside, you’ll need to consider a coat, as well as making sure your shoes are suitable for walking in wet, muddy or even icy conditions. Lots of brides opt to wear converse or vans under their dresses, so they are comfy all day and don’t need to worry about falling in their heels. Beautifully Unique Bridesmaids Dresses
The wedding I attended recently was in a stately home, and no expense was spared. The entire day was stunning from beginning to end! The Bride’s dress was hand-made, and the intricate appliqué design was absolutely stunning!
The happy couple had opted for the same blue-grey coloured dress for the bridesmaids, but each dress was different, and used a range of beautiful bridal fabrics. One had a covered back, high neck and covered arms, while another had a backless halter neck style. The third had cuffed shoulders and a plunging neck line.
All of them looked absolutely beautiful, and I loved that each bridesmaid’s dress was unique to them.
How Formal Should I Go?
The unique bridesmaids dresses got me thinking about the wedding guests themselves. As I looked around the room, I realised that most of the guests were wearing darker outfits than we would have been in June. Was this a sign of the season, or just a change in fashionable colours? (I don’t wear light colours, so am probably the exception to the rule here).
I opted for a dark green, long sleeved dress, black velvet Irregular Choice shoes and a matching handbag. Dark green definitely seemed to be the in colour – A good 20 other female guests were also wearing green. I was really surprised to realise that every female guest was wearing a dress. I’d also bought a jumpsuit, but decided it wasn’t dressy enough in the end.
Dress vs Trousers?
I wear trousers 99.9% of the time; but personally, I believe that a wedding calls for a dress. Do you agree? I’d purchased silver, sparkly heels and a matching handbag to wear, but my daughter told me they were too sparkly for me, and I should wear what I was comfortable in. So I did just that!
For me, tights are a must, so I opt for closed-toe shoes. I’ve got really pale legs, and no time or energy for fake tan, so decent tights mean my legs look better. This does mean that open toe shoes or sandals aren’t an option though.
When it comes to considering a coat or jacket when looking for Winter Wedding outfit ideas, why not opt for a shawl instead? This can match your outfit better, and will enhance your outfit, rather than covering it up. I was a bridesmaid for my brother in the Winter and had a shawl – I loved it! (See it for yourself here)!
